SHIPWRECK--Since the beginning of water travel, tales have come forth about the tragedies of the sea. Many ships with cargo, crew and passengers have been lost. Stories range from collisions with icebergs, oil rigs, floating debris or other vessels to even the supernatural. Just as the highways and airways take their toll, so does the sea. If you will stay informed with world conditions, almost weekly somewhere there is a sea-collision. Cargo, lives and the environment are many times hurt severely. Why cannot this be avoided? Why do ships wreck? Many times a vessel will hit a hidden or submerged object unseen with radar or the naked eye. Sometimes the elements seem to work contrary--like the tides and the fog. Many a foggy night has put to sleep a ship as it headed for danger, with the current moving it off course only slightly, but just enough for its death.

Other times equipment failure, or even small human error, ends in tragedy, like going to sleep at the wheel. Your writer has been guilty of this, with near disaster. In God's book, the Bible, those who go away from God and abandon the truth, embrace error and are said the be shipwrecked. 1 Timothy 1:19, "Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck. " My life, then, is somewhat like a ship. If I am not careful, disaster could come my way. In fact, do you not know many people who have wrecked their lives? Just how does this happen? In the same way a ship wrecks, the hidden or submerged objects are Satan's snares to trick mankind. He will never allow you to see the hidden results of sinful ways and acts. He will show a life of sin as a smooth sea filled with excitement. The sandbars, rocks, pilings, etc., he keeps hidden. What about the elements? For mankind this would be the ways of the world. The way of the world is the way to shipwreck. John said in 1 John 2:15, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." The world's music, drink, pleasures, even the world's religion will bring shipwreck and loss. Many are asleep at the wheel. Will you not awaken to your condition? Destruction is ahead. Ahoy, my friend! Do not end up as a statistic or a news story. "Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light" (Ephesians 5:14).

Shipwreck--sad because many times it could have been avoided. The only sure way to avoid wreckage is to let the heavenly captain steer your life. Who is at the helm of your soul? Jesus knows the way of safe travel. Take your hands off your life today. Do not end up SHIPWRECKED!

"Blessed are they that put their trust in him" (Psalm 2:12).
