Practically all ancient harbors of importance were in the Mediterranean Sea. Harbors were built there as early as 3500 BC. Two of the earliest were Sidon and Tyre, constructed by the Phoenicians. Throughout history great cities have risen to power based on their ability to utilize their access to the sea. Some of the great known harbors of the world are New York, Singapore, Hong Kong, Rio de Janerio, Marseille, Rotterdam, and Sydney. Sydney has the most spacious and protected natural harbor in the world. Through many experiences in life as a fisherman, I have come to appreciate the harbor. While the sea is the place for work and open travel, the harbor gives security and rest to every vessel. You see, sooner or later every vessel needs a harbor. The same is true with mankind. With our much activity outwardly, there is a need for a place of comfort and rest. For many this can be found in the home, some special hobby, or a place to vacation; these places and things make us feel good and anchor us fast. We also need this for the inside. Outwardly we could be comfortable, but inwardly miserable. While we can provide for ourselves outward things, God is our only help for within. Do you feel storm-tossed on the inside at times? As in a physical harbor there are natural and artificial ones, so it is with the spiritual. Mankind, through various cults, religions, and religious effects, makes for himself harbors of hope. Outwardly they look good, but put to the test they fail. Man produces only the ARTIFICIAL; God has the only NATURAL harbor. It has been used by millions for thousands of years. This harbor is found in Jesus Christ. Knowing Him as your personal Saviour and friend brings peace to the troubled soul. Do you have a haven of rest, a place that you can enter to find protection and comfort when the storms of life blow? Jesus Christ provides not just a spiritual harbor in this life, but an eternal one for the neverdying soul. "He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them into their desired haven" (Psalm 107:29, 30). "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Write to us at the address below and we will send you other free helpful literature. Links
