The smallest fish is the pygmy goby of the Philippines, growing to less than onehalf inch. The largest fish is the whale shark, weighing over fifteen tons and measuring sixty feet in length. A variety of characteristics can be seen. There is the walking catfish, actually living outside of the water for days while going from pond to pond. The flying fish can leave the water and soar over a thousand feet before entering the water again. The black swallower can eat a fish twice its size. The archer fish actually shoots its prey with a stream of water with almost perfect accuracy. Parts of the bodies of certain blowfish are more lethal than any known poison. On and on we could go, telling of the marvel of God's creation in the water (Genesis 1:20). None of man's theories have explained the orgin and complexities of such a creature as the fish. The fish serves man as a wonderful food item. In fact, according to the latest scientific reports, seafood could actually save your life. Research has shown that just two fish meals a week could significantly reduce the risk of heart attack. The reason, is that fish oils change the chemistry of the blood to lower the likelihood of heart disease. Fish oils also help in preventing arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and many cancers. The sensible approach, say researchers, is to substitute fish for meat several times a week. Wouldn't you know that it is God who raises the healthiest of all food? Sure, the fish provides us with many physical helps, but why was it really created? The answer is in the Bible. Colossians 1:16, "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible-all thingswere created by him, and for him". As we look at sea life, it is like a giant finger pointing men to God, reflecting His glory. What about your life? What does it point to? Who are you serving? God created you to serve Him. Isaiah 44:7, "Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. " The only ultimate pleasure in life is pleasing God. Ask the fish. "...and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee" (Job 12:8).
